How to write a CV that gets you a gardening job
Tailor your CV to horticulture roles — highlight qualifications, seasons worked and the tools you know.
A horticulture CV is different from a generic one. Lead with the things employers in the green industries actually scan for: the qualifications you hold (RHS, NPTC, CSCS), the seasons you've worked, and the machinery and tools you're competent with.
Structure
- A short profile line naming your trade (e.g. Soft-landscape gardener, 6 years).
- Qualifications with awarding body and year.
- Roles in reverse-chronological order, each with the site type — private garden, estate, commercial grounds, nursery.
- A tools & machinery line: mowers, strimmers, chipper, mini-digger.
What to leave out Drop unrelated office work. One page is enough for most roles; two only for senior or estate-management positions.
Keep it honest, specific and seasonal — that's what gets you the interview.
