Grounds maintenance jobs in the UK

Keeping estates, schools, business parks and public green spaces safe, tidy and well presented, on a scheduled round.

Grounds maintenance is scheduled, contract-driven work. Teams cover grass cutting, strimming, hedge trimming, litter and weed control, shrub beds and seasonal bedding across a portfolio of sites, often for a local authority, housing provider, school or facilities company. The rhythm of the year is set by the contract specification and the growing season.

Because sites are public, safety and presentation are part of the job: correct signage, safe use of machinery near people, and a tidy finish. It is one of the steadiest entry points into the industry, with clear progression into supervision and contract management.

Every specialist page follows the same structure: live vacancies, how the career progresses, and the qualifications employers actually ask for.

Vacancies on this page are advertised directly by employers through Gardening Careers. We do not create example roles to fill a category, and roles advertised on an employer's own website are shown separately as external opportunities.
