Horticulture And Gardeners’ Salaries In London?
Horticulture And Gardeners’ Salaries In London?
Gardeners are like any other professionals and need good working conditions and pay. In London, head gardeners are earning between £20,000 – £40,000 but several of them are still underpaid and receiving as low as £16,000/year, as revealed by the Professional Gardeners’ Guild (PGG).
The gardening professional community is highly disappointed with the pay they are receiving. Since, many a time they work in unsafe conditions and spend their own money on tools and clothes, PGG is taking initiatives in order to create awareness among the employers and the public at large. PGG is also coming up with pay guidelines to support the gardener members and provide them direction to negotiate/accept or reject a job offer.
Gardeners’ pay does not vary much; over 64% of them earn between £16,000- £20,000. However, there are some who earn lesser. UK also has a large number of self-employed gardeners who charge anywhere between £10-£25/hour; this depends upon the place where they work. The highest rates, however are in London.
